Royal Pig Pub

I had been here once before for drinks a few years ago on a date and had always wanted to go back to get a meal because I’ve heard it’s amazing. I don’t know what took me so long but my girlfriend and I had one of the best meals we’ve had in a while last Friday at Royal Pig. My full review can be found below, but long story short – this place is amazing.

Our Wonderful Meal at Royal Pig Pub

For starters, this is not something I usually comment on, but I have to give credit to our server. I didn’t catch his name, but he was amazing. Attentive all night, provided great recommendations and answered all of our questions while being genuinely friendly and have a good time with us. The service was top notch and worth going back for if that’s what to be expected.

The first thing I did was take a look at the drink menu and saw an Old Fashioned on there, and when our server came around we were told (before me mentioning it) that it happened to be one of their specialties. Done deal. I knew what I was getting. It was a great cocktail.

For an appetizer, we started off with the bacon mac n’ cheese that I saw people raving about on Yelp reviews. It lived up to its billing. They also serve it with brisket, but we were set on some bacon. It was delicious and we’d get it again.

As for our entrees, we stuck to the Favorites section of the menu and listened to our server’s recommendations. If you couldn’t tell by the name, they specialize in pork. My girlfriend got the Braised Pork Shoulder and it was incredible. The taste of the pork makes us really want to try their¬†ribs next time. It was cooked perfectly, the seasoning and sauce were great, all around it was delicious.

I caught my eye on the chicken and waffles. It’d been a while since I had a plate of that, and it was too good to pass up. The waffles were made of cornbread which was a unique and tasty twist. It was a huge meal, two very big breasts of fried chicken, and I had some leftovers for the next day. Another entree that I would absolutely order again.

We don’t always get dessert, but with how wonderful everything else through the night was, we couldn’t pass up trying out their after-dinner cuisine. We got the Bourbon Bread Pudding and, just like the rest of the meal, it was a winner.

There was nothing that we disliked about this place and we will certainly be back. Their motto on their website makes all too much sense now:

Our mission is clear:  Treat our guests like royalty and serve cravable cuisine that keeps them coming back again and again.

Truer words have never been spoken. Mission accomplished.

This restaurant is very easy to find, right in the heart of the bustling Las Olas neighborhood in Fort Lauderdale, right across the street from Yolo. We’ll be back for sure!
