O-B House

This is a place that I’ve been meaning to try after all the times I run past it when I’m with my running club that starts/ends at Bull Market on Tuesday nights. Just from the name itself, Old Fort Lauderdale Breakfast House (also known as O-B House), this place was calling my name.

O-B House Fort Lauderdale Review

We put our name in with the host and were told it would be about a thirty minute wait, which we were fine with since it was a nice day and they had some benches outside to sit and wait. They even offered to take a coffee order so we had that to tie us over for a little while. It’s a small place, and pretty popular, so waiting for a table on a weekend morning will be the norm but it is absolutely worth it.

It’s a bit pricier than your usual breakfast, but again I will say it is absolutely worth it. This is some gourment breakfast, better food than we’ve had in a long time. Also, you’ll see a little note on your table that no gratuity is expected, their staff is paid accordingly, so that’s a little bit of where the price hike comes from.

It’s nice and cozy in there, the tables are pretty close together (but not too much so), and it’s tastefully decorated with a nice atmosphere. Beautiful, fresh arrangement of flowers on the table. It has windows all along Himmarshee to let plenty of light in and see all the foot traffic going on outside.

I ordered their version of a eggs benedict, called the O-B House Hollandaise, and I won’t hesitate to say that it is among the best eggs benny I’ve ever had. To start off, it comes on top of a huge, thick piece of “O-B toast” that in and of itself was great. Top that with two fresh, softly poached, free-range eggs atop a bed of fresh, steamed spinach and you have yourself a big meal. I didn’t even care that there wasn’t a breakfast ham or other protein on there, it was filling enough. It took up the whole plate!

Looking at all the other plates go by at the tables around us, the portions are all huge and all of them look delicious. We will definitely be back to try out their breakfast sandwiches, omelettes, and pancakes sometime soon. They also have a lunch menu that looks pretty tasty, but I’m very much a breakfast guy any time it is served.

The location is perfect for anyone in Fort Lauderdale, the atmosphere is great, the waitstaff is very good, and the food is the best breakfast in town. Aside from all that, it’s a great departure away from all the noisy breakfasts down the street at places like Public House or all the other loud brunches on this street. We’ll back soon!
