My girlfriend and I have driven past this place so many times and I always said that we should go there sometime. Situated right on the corner of 26th and US 1 in Fort Lauderdale, you really can’t miss it when driving by and it just looks like a little hole in the wall local diner that I would love.
As I’m a huge breakfast fan, as told in my review of the OB House on Himmarshee, I couldn’t wait to try this place out. It has the look from the outside that it is open all the time and serves breakfast all the time, but every time we went it seemed like it was closed. We tried to get some “breakfast for dinner” one time and found that it is open every day from 7 am to 2 pm. Knowing this now, we finally went one of these recent weekends.
Egg & You Diner Review
Parking is pretty plentiful as it shares a lot with all the surrounding businesses. At first I was a bit dismayed with all the signage to pay for parking (you can either use the little electronic kiosk or the pay by phone app), but was happy when using the app I saw that it is 24 hours free parking, you more or less just need to go through the process.
Once we got in the front door, it was exactly how I pictured it would be. We were expecting it would be busy – it just gave me the feeling of being a popular spot with lots of regulars. We put our name in and were seated within about 5 to 10 minutes. There is a counter to sit at as well as booths and tables.
The chalkboard had a lot of nice specials but we were both there for some old standards of ours. My girlfriend got an eggs benedict and I got my tried and true omelet with bacon and cheddar. I try to order the same thing when I try out a new breakfast place so I can get a likewise comparison on the same menu item between all of them.
The omelet was big (I can’t remember how many eggs – maybe 3?) and was full of cheese and bacon just the way I like it. My girlfriend’s eggs benedict looked great, and after giving me a bite I can attest it tasted as good as it looked. Overall, you get just what you expect when you dine here – a nice little local place that has all your standard breakfast items (along with a few house specialties) and they do all of them well.
When we’re in the mood we’ll definitely be visiting the Egg & You Diner again for a quick and hearty breakfast and a good cup of coffee. It has a family-owned, local feel to it and the service was friendly and exceptional. Definitely stop by if you’re in the area and hungry!
They do have bottled beer available, but if you’re looking for more of a drinking breakfast/brunch, I recommend checking out Tap42 on the weekends.
